Sia Steady Beat Boomwhacker Play-Along to Unstoppable - Level 1
March is the perfect month to shine a spotlight on incredible women in music! Let’s celebrate these powerful voices by bringing their music into our elementary music classrooms. Each week, I feature a fun and engaging play-along video highlighting amazing female artists like:
Ella Jenkins
Ella Fitzgerald
Dolly Parton
Lady Gaga
Jennifer Lopez
Tina Turner
Aretha Franklin
Frederica von Stade
Plus medleys with The Go-Go’s, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, and more!
This week, we’re stepping into the world of Sia with a Steady Beat Boomwhacker Play-Along for her empowering hit, Unstoppable. Let’s get those boomwhackers ready!
🎶 Unstoppable Steady Beat Boomwhacker Play-Along — Level 1
What to expect:
Notes used: D, E, F, and A
Skill level: Perfect for all elementary grades — simple enough for younger students, yet engaging for older ones too
Focus: Steady beat practice with a fun and dynamic pop song
A Level 2 version — featuring more notes, chords, and musical notation for upper elementary students — will be coming soon. Stay tuned!
🌟 Teaching Ideas
Looking for creative ways to use this play-along in your classroom? Here are some ideas to make the most of it, whether you have a full set of boomwhackers or not:
🎼 No boomwhackers? No problem!
Use classroom percussion instruments:
D = woods (rhythm sticks, tone blocks)
E = metals (triangles, tambourines)
F = percussion (hand drums)
A = shakers (egg shakers, maracas)
Try virtual instruments:
Play Xylo (https://playxylo.com/) — a fun, interactive xylophone
Doctor Musik’s Virtual Xylophone (https://www.doctormusik.com/apps-and-games/virtual-xylophone/)
🌈 Using xylophones instead?
Color-code your bars: Wrap rubber bands around the bars to match the boomwhacker colors.
Add stickers: Use Chromanotes stick-ons (https://rebrand.ly/9c9izii) to label the bars with the corresponding colors.
