Female Solo Singers Body Percussion Play-Along

Earlier this week I shared the Rhythm Play-Along version of the medley including excerpts from female solo singers dating 1967-1990. They include Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Dolly Parton, Aretha Franklin, and Whitney Houston. This week, I include the body percussion version and the manipulatives to complement both videos.

Body Percussion Play-Along

The body percussion play-along includes the following rhythms with motions:

  • Quarter rest - “shh”

  • Half rest - wave hands up in the air two times

  • Quarter note or crotchet - clap

  • Half note or minim - step and slide

  • Whole note or semibreve - clap on beat one and then have your hands create a circle for beats two, three, and four

  • Dotted quarter note followed by an eighth note - tap and slide your hand on your lap for the dotted quarter note and a stomp for the eighth note

  • Two eighth notes or quavers - two stamps

Manipulatives

I have created this google slide show with the visuals. You can use these visuals to help learn the rhythms or the body percussion. It also includes “Fast Facts” of the five female singers taken from Kiddle. The link below gives you a forced copy so that you can edit it as you would like.
