A Simple Rhythm Play-Along For Valentine's Day and TMEA!

Tomorrow begins the annual TMEA/TI:ME (Technology in Music Education) National Conference. Held annually in San Antonio, Texas, this conference is the home to over 25,000 music educators, merchants, admin, clinicians, and more, for the span of four days. This conference is exciting. You can find sessions on mostly any topic in music education. You can also meet many of the gurus in music education like Denise Gagne. You can also attend the pre-conference where TI:ME holds its annual National Conference and brings in the best music technology and music education presenters from around the world.

Join me as I will blog daily and possibly, live podcast from the event. I look forward to seeing many of my music education friends that I have met over the past 25+ years. Katie Wardrobe from Midnight Music, based in Australia will be presenting, as well as fellow NJ music educator, Shawna Longo. TI:ME will celebrate their TI:ME Mike Kovins Teacher of the Year recipient, Heath Jones! This award has a special place in my heart as I have been a member of the TI:ME organization for years, and served as President over a decade ago. I was also the first recipient of the award in 2005. TI:ME has been around for over 30 years and has assisted music educators with integrating technology into their classrooms when the technology was only one computer with very complicated notation programs.

My three sessions are:

How Can I Create Play-Along Videos with Mostly Free Tools? CC 214B Wednesday 3:00

Play-along videos have become popular because they can be used for meeting performance standards, for retrieval practice, and at times, just as fun musical activities before a break. But how can one be made so that it blends into your curriculum, using mostly free tools? Burns will show you how to create them so that they meet your curriculum.

New! Valentine’s Rhythm Play-Along Video to That Thing You Do!

Here is a fun, simple rhythm play-along video to the song, That Thing You Do, written by Adam Schlesinger. The song is performed by the fictional 1960s band The Wonders, who are the focus of the film with the same title. The song peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1997.

This song and play-along video will be featured in my session tomorrow where you can see how to create the video in two different ways using free tools!
